Biographical history

Notherwono Provisional School opened in April 1897. Provisional schools were established in areas of smaller population where there were insufficient pupils to support a public school. By 1897 twelve pupils were required for the commencement of a provisional school. Usually the Department of Education provided the teacher, books and other teaching materials and the parents made arrangements for the school building. In December 1899, the name of Notherwono was changed to Millwood.

The School became a Public School in April 1900. Public Schools were basic elementary schools in the NSW Education system. By 1900 twenty pupils were required for the maintenance of a school in this classification.

The school closed in December 1966.

Note
Under the earlier names of Currawananna Lagoon and Notherwono a previous school was conducted in this area from 1887 until 1896.
