Photograph of "The 'Pandora' Opal. Size - four and a 1/2 inches x two and 3/4 inches. Weight - 790 carats. Depth of colour - 1/4 inch. Quality - black, with red fire. Part of opalised blade-bone of a plesiosaurus, it was found at Lightning Ridge in 1928 by Jack McNicol, in a pillar of earth supporting the roof of an old drive, and in a pocket with about £360 worth of lesser gems. Finder refused offer of £1000 and a motor car, but afterwards sold it for £400 just before his death. Stone afterwards changed hands twice in London for £2000. Taken at Lightning Ridge 1928. Reprint - Govt Sept. 1987"
