Clarence Wiesner of 'Meadowvale', Uranquinty, enlisted in the 18th Australian Infantry Battalion on 14 August 1916. He left Australia in October on board the 'Ascanius', and marched into France in March 1917. Clarence was killed in action on 3 May 1917 by a shell while attacking a German trench at Bullecourt, France. Information given about him at the time described him as being "of a very jolly disposition, and for this reason was very popular with his mates".
