Biographical history

Born at Willoughby, NSW in 1925 to Joseph Walter and Marjorie Thompson (nee Roberts). Known as "Nan".
Married Alfred Harry Friend (1920-1989, son of Walter Percy and Mabel Friend) on 8 February 1947. Son, Douglas Walter, born 1948. Library Assistant at the Library of NSW from 1971.
Died 1 January 1983 and is buried at the Dural Uniting Church Cemetery. A description on her grave marker says "Devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, teacher and librarian. She practiced love and loved beauty of plants. At rest." (Alfred Henry Friend's grave marker says, "Widower of Nan, father of Douglas and Joseph, husband of Josephine, early promoter of environmental concepts. At rest.")

Archival history

These records were acquired by the father of Anne Chestnut, who was an auctioneer and antiques dealer in Sydney.
